fuck 2009

there really wasn’t that many good albums that came out. maybe it’s just because i spent a lot of time finding old music, instead of staying current. so what do i do.

JAZZ. Gary Burton, Pat Metheny, Roy Haynes, Chick Corea, Dave Holland. Gary Burton is a pretty fucking sweet vibraphone player, that’s what drew me into this. but everyone on this album is a solid player, and everysong is pretty much what you expect to hear when someone says JAZZ. The album is called Like Minds, and its from 1998. it won a grammy for best jazz album of some category as well.

more of the best from 2009

this is a pretty solid IDM album by Wisp. it’s a lot less glitchy then the other idm i know, and heavier on synths and pads. there are some better songs, and some crappier ones. it’s not the best idm i have heard, but it pretty good.

something about the scene

so i found this band, Within the Ruins, and everyone i have showed them to so far has said they suck. they sound like they listen to a lot of scene bands and are trying to be cool. if you ignore the fact that they are trying too hard, they actually are cool. its like melodic technical metalcore. the only part that really stands out to me is the guitars. the rhythms are all over the place sometimes, but they seem to be the right places. they also do some breakdown-esque breakdowns.

best of 2009

I've never written a blog, and I've never written any album reviews. I'm going to give a shot at both, starting with some albums to check out from this past year. GET DOWN TO BUSINESS.

the first album I'm going to post is by a band called The Reptilian. I DO NOT know the genre of the band. The way they play is not something i am very familiar with . the vocals sound like they are from a post-hardcore band, the bass is fucking funky sometimes, the guitars are mathy, and great to try to play air guitar too. also there are drums. you have to listen for yourself to understand probably.
